I am confused here. I just found this site as I was searching for great Tool songs. I always think that Tool sounds like what Led Zeppelin would be playing if they were still a band. Lateralus is probably the best example of how original Tool's style is compared to the rest of the rock bands in the world. They very rarely do the generic verse, chorus, verse, chorus, guitar solo, chorus formula. Most of their songs actually build and evolve so that they have a new riff by the end than they do in the beginning. They are absolutely brilliant musicians and song writers.

Had to stick with Lateralus here. The song is so well structured, so intricate with every detail of the song, from the lyrical structures, to the time signatures, to the instrumentation, everything. The irony within Lateralus, however, lies in the words themselves, urging the listener to "not get caught up in the small details of life, to embrace the random". As stated previously in the comment section, this song really is similar to a modern day Stairway to Heaven, in both lyrics and structure.
