Lots of nice people but so many youths who pull a knife. Center is good but beware of plenty violent drunks who don't appear to be from the schemes. Avoid lanes in center and don't go near any schemes as it's not safe. Lots of nice people in the schemes but they don't even go out in local area. Football idiots all over also. Use your wits as its normal city problems you will encounter. Great vibe though in Glasgow. Stayed for 3 years at university and always my 2nd home. PS, I'm from Manchester and it's not much better.

I'm from Glasgow but now live in the Gold Coast Australia. Glasgow is a beautiful and amazing city but is definitely a rough and tough place if you venture away from the city centre. At night if you don't pay attention you could end up in accident and emergency at one of the city's busy hospitals. There is a hardman mentality ingrained into the population in western Scotland but specificly Glasgow where violence is a popular recreation for many from the young age of usually 11 years old. With a long history of gang related violence and knife crime in the tuff government housing schemes with low employment rates combined with alcohol and drug problems it is easy to see why Glasgow has the reputation it has. I am however proud of my home town and would recommend visiting it to anyone.
