The SIG 510 was a weapon even if it was unloaded, the SIG 550 came with a lot of plastic. We lost a full metal gun in 7.5x55 to a plastic gun in 5.56x45. The SIG 510 was very accurate for a battle rifle and shooting it in full auto was a lot of fun. So not everybody was happy about that change. But the SIG 550 is even more accurate and much better controllable in full auto. And it is very reliable. The only problem is the gas cylinder, witch tends to rust (you have to clean it much more often than an AK. We cleaned it every day an after every use).I would always rely on a SIG 550, 551 and a 553.
