Tolkien really was the master. These books have everything. Light, dark, touching, pounding suspense, pure epicness, magical/mystical realms, and bittersweet so strong it will to kill you to read. There is also only one romance chapter. All if his species and languages are so marvelously crafted. Every time you learn a new fact about little details in the books, you get so much more mind blown over how much of a genius this guy was. And the books themselves are almost worth the read just because

Truly the most perfect book in existence. It has a little bit of everything for all different people and the characters are amazing. Tolkien created the most beautiful fictional universe and middle earth feels so real somehow. The Lord of the Rings is not for everyone. Vast stretches of the novel are spent describing relatively meaningless details, and it can bore less patient readers. However, if you can see past its flaws, The Lord of the Rings is a very good book, and my personal favorite. These books will last you a lifetime as you can read them again and again and again and then read them to your children, your grandchildren and your dog. Seriously the best books ever written. Tolkiens world is incredibly detailed and brilliantly depicted. Your attention is held from the first page till the last and you WILL lie awake at night wondering what happens next to your favourite characters.

BELOW THE HUNGER GAMES? MY GOODNESS, WHOEVER MADE THIS LIST NEEDS TO PLACE TIS ONE BY ITS OWN PREQEL, THE HOBBIT! It is what fantasy is and always should be. For any fellow Christians out there who won't read anything other than the Bible or other religious texts: read this book it will broaden your horizons without leaving your comfort zone. Tolkien was an extremely religious Catholic who wrote The Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, and the Silmarillion as a personal testament to his faith.
