The first World War is often overshadowed by the second, which is believe to have created catastrophic devices, turned countries around, and killed millions.What isn't understood however is that the first World War started it all. King Wilhelm united Germany under Prussia, creating what was thought to be a great country. However his son, Wilhelm the second, shoved off his advisor and all his fathers hard work, power unable to quench his thirst, thus beginning a foolish domination of the European countries. Should be higher up on this list, WWI was the first true global war, and with it brought unprecedented destruction and misery. It truly shook the world, completely changing our attitudes towards combat and war. It basically wiped out a generation of young men with the potential to change the world for the better, and basically only because of wounded the belligerent's wounded pride and nationalistic values. It of course lead to the even bloodier, but much more justifiable conflict of WW2 (allies basically had to save the world from the fascists). WWI was so tragic in this sense that it was such a meaningless war that killed and maimed and brought pain to so many people.

Compared to ww2 it has a significantly lower death toll (but still a massive 17 million), however in my opinion it's a far sadder war. People were fighting and dying in their millions for what exactly? Not for peace, ww2 starting just 21 years later. Not for freedom, there was still oppression and mistreatment in the colonies of the victors. In the end, they fought and bled for nothing.

在我看來,第一次世界大戰會發生這樣或那樣的方式,因為歐洲是在一個大混亂。我覺得戰爭可能是比是小很多,因為我沒有看到任何點為什么德國加入除了嫉妒。即便如此我覺得最后戰爭的國家可能會花費更多的時間在考慮為了避免另一場戰爭這樣的二戰是毫無意義的,就可以輕松避免。

In my opinion WWI was going to happen one way or another because Europe was in a big mess before it. I feel like the war could have been a lot smaller than what it was because I didnt see any point in why Germany joined except for Jealousy. Even so I feel like at the end of the war nations could have spent more time on thinking of a way to avoid another war like this one ( WWII was pointless and could have been easily avoided.)

I don't know why World War I is this low down in this list. It should be higher, especially with the body count and the horrific conditions that soldiers had to go through. They died in battle, exposure in the trenches or even by execution for deserting. It affected many and lasted 4 years until Armistice Day.

I agree, if WW1 never happened so would WW2, living in the trenches was awful, you had to deal with toxic gases like Mustard Gas and Chlorine has, this was the first major use of chemical weapons in a war, you also had to worry about being drowned in mud, and diseases and be diagnosed with shellshocked, should be higher up

If this did not happen hitler would not rise to power I don't think so therefor ww2 would not have happend and the holocaust would not have happened because hitler blamed the jews for their loss in ww1 and sent them to camps
