Biggest number of casualties the world has ever seen in one area - just as many as the Holocaust, but less documented and over the space of a few days. It is rarely discussed today sadly because the Japanese government refuses to admit it happened, or try and say that it is just a 'part of war' and because the Japanese became allies of America against China in the Cold War that erupted after the end of World War II.

The Japanese Imperialist soldiers stripped people, buried them halfway through the dirt, and ordered dogs to eat them alive. People were used as bayonet practice when alive. Pregnant women had their fetuses ripped out of their stomachs. Women ranging from five years old to eighty were raped then stabbed in their genitals by a bayonet, beer bottle, or bamboo canes. Children were sliced from the top of their heads to the crotch. Fathers were forced to rape their daughters, brothers to rape their sisters, and sons to rape their mothers. There's even a story where a family tried to escape across the river, until the Japanese soldiers caught them and raped all the young daughters. But when they ordered the great-grandfather of the household to rape them also, they preferred to die so they all jumped into the river and drowned.

And the Japanese (ww2 era, not modern day) are still considered to be crazy warriors. They were, but they were so much more. They were as brutal as the Nazis in Europe and need to be thought of as such.

- BruhMachine
The fact that Pearl Harbour, Donald Trump, 9/11 and much more are above this is beyond me. I cannot understand how the merciless rape and pillage of a whole city and literal hundreds and thousands of people is considered less than (comparatively) an angry orange man, a single collapsed building, a few busted up boats or a school shooting. All horrible of course, but my god does none of it compare to the sheer hopelessness and lack of humanity displayed in Nanking. Makes it worse that Japan is like "sorry...I guess..." at an absolute stretch of the best (though they'd happier to pretend it didn't happen) even today. Truely horrific. - BruhMachine

This is just plain awful. Beheading men. Having contest fighting for who ever gets 100 kills first. Raping thousands of women and girl then just stabbing their V. What an awful merciless act on the Chinese.

Worse than the Holocaust. Today it's still denied by the Japanese government. Deserves WAY higher than 9/11 and even higher than the marathon bombings.

Honestly, the acts of the Japanese on POW is as bad as or worse than the holocaust
