Chinchillas are very loving and actually pretty active and social pets. But don't expect them to be cuddly, They usually aren't. They don't really smell bad at all if you keep their cages clean. Make sure you remember to give them dust baths too! They just can't be in very hot areas. If your house gets really hot during the summer, maybe consider a different pet. Also, I wouldn't recommend them with smaller children unless they are VERY gentle. Chinchillas prefer quiet and calm homes with people who are willing to be gentle while handling them. The tasks chinchillas require to stay happy and healthy may be simple, however they require an owner that is dedicated and has a lot of time on their hands. Chinchillas also are pretty expensive to own and they are happier in pairs. Expect to be paying at least 200$ for 1 chinchilla. A good cage is can be between $200-$500.
