The leader of the opposition Labour government party wanted to change this anthem, but why? Just because we were deciding whether we would change the flag (Which we didn't because the alternative choices were terrible) and we lost pride in what we already had. Its actually a great anthem with a tune and shows racial unity between the Maori people and NZ Europeans.

New Zealand's national anthem has the most humble and inspiring lyrics out of all the anthems that I've listened to. There is a short version which is sung at games etc, but there is also a full version which honestly has the most humbling and modest lyrics ever. The way they incorporate other Maori and English language in the anthem is beautiful わ
