In my humble opinion:1) City of Evil2) Nightmare3) Avenged Sevenfold4) Waking the Fallen5) Hail to the King6) Diamonds in the Rough7) Sounding the Seventh TrumpetI really do enjoy all of their albums, and the margin of difference in the top 5 is razor thin. However, City does not have a single weak song, while every other one does. One Waking, Won't See You Tonight Part 2 drags down the album. Dear God hurts A7X's chances for the top bid, and on Nightmare there are simply too many slow songs in the second half. Had they substituted 4 AM or Lost It All for Tonight the World Dies, then that album may be number one for me. For Hail to the King, This Means War is the weak spot. On City of Evil, their weakest track (my opinion) is Trashed and Scattered; if that's your weakest track, then you have created an absolutely classic album. My top 3 tracks on City are Beast and the Harlot, The Wicked End, and MIA.

City of Evil.. Wow, honestly words cannot describe how purely great EVERY single song is on this amazing record released in 2005 that set the core standpoint for Avenged Sevenfold's future. Yes, they have evolved since then with a different, darker more personal type sound but this album alone will always remain the one that clearly has the most rocking straight forward hand banging hard rock sound that you could put on replay for hours. So addictive, City of Evil 100% deserves to be listed first. Its long, it keeps pace, its heavy.. It's true modern hard rock at it's best with the creativity all the five members put into the release. 5/5 stand down.

Avenged have many great albums, but I'm voting for City of Evil as I think this was the band's biggest turning point, going from their metalcore roots to a more hard rock sound which in my opinion suits the band much better. Waking the Fallen had great guitar work but too much screaming, M Shadow's vocals are a lot cleaner here and a lot of these songs are more enjoyable to listen to.Beast and the Harlot is dark and brooding but a real shredder of a tune. Bat country is another such example and even when it slows down during Seize the Day we still get some epic solos with some very meaningful lyrics to their songs.Whilst their later albums are great City of Evil just feels like their best overall.

I cannot BELIEVE their self-titled album is in first. Now, while it was a good album, it was easily their worst. It was very short, and while it had some amazing songs in it, others didn't feel A7X at all (such as Dear God). The album was good.Now it is nowhere near comparison to City of Evil. This album was outstanding. While the self-titled album had 6 or 7 good songs on it, COE had 11, meaningevery song in it. The albim is quite long at 72 minutes, with the shortest song being about 5 minutes long, and the average song length being close to 6 minutes. Every song on it is pure A7X.Basically, I enjoyed the self-titled album. But it stands nowhere close to City of Evil. So... It really shouldn't be at the top, and I'm even more disappointed to find Waking the Fallen in 4th.On a final note, I can safely say that the self-titled is in first because of the common obsession with Afterlife...

City of Evil is easily the best album by A7X, it has a lot of diversity while still having like a constant City of Evil like sound, it has a lot of great guitar solos, and has a theme going with all the shorter songs from Beast and the harlot through Seize the Day, and all of the epics from Sidewinder through MIA, also the 3 part intro song "Beast and The harlot/Burn it Down/Blinded in Chains" is awesome, A7X has all the hits, but except for them its not really that great an album compared to City of EvilMy top 6 is:1. City of Evil2. Waking the Fallen3. Nightmare4. Diamonds in the Rough5. A7X6. Sounding the Seventh Trumpet - D2Demon

Not sure why this isn't the highest rated masterpiece. The first half of the album has a bunch of their hits, but the second part of the album is perhaps the best collection of songs they have ever released. Sure the production quality isn't perfect, but every single song after and including "seize the day" should always be listened to in one sitting. The Wicked End? Really awesome use of an orchestra. Strength of the World? Includes my favorite guitar solo ever written. MIA? Best A7X closer to date.This kicks album kicks ass, plain and simple. I still come back to it every month or so and have multiple eargasms. Each song reminds me of a certain point in my childhood, it's incredible how moving and powerful the music is. This is why A7X became popular. It's as simple as that. This album will probably always be their best. I look forwards to a remastered version coming out within the next decade.

This album builds on the total coherence achieved in 'Waking the Fallen' but delivers more creative songs with mesmerising melodies and more interesting structures.Every instrument matters in this album which adds depth to the songs upon repeat listens. The songs are generally longer than most released by A7X which allows their imaginative writing room to breathe. The length of the songs is not unwarranted as the songs meander and or jump from grooves to gallops, solos to ballads.The first 5 songs really blow your head off and establish the album well. From Seize the day onwards we are treated to longer and more progressive songs with strong themes and plenty of memorable moments.Mia makes a for a great finale, with the song finishing the way it started and it's use of crowd-like singing.The other albums are great but they just don't work as well as whole albums, with the exception of Waking the Fallen, perhaps (although the musicianship and song ... more

While Nightmare and the self-titled were both very enjoyable, they were short, too soft, and didn't seem to ft A7X's style. Those are problems that City of Evil does NOT have. The only flaw on CoE was lengthy songs... But that's not actually a bad thing, now is it? Plus, Beast and the Harlot and Bat Country have two of the greatest riffs A7X has ever produced. This is their best album. So before blindly "jumping on the bandwagon", think about what's actually good, and not just popular. - ThatStrangeKid42

Is difficult to pick their "best" album as each is so different, but if I had to pick my favorite it'd have to be city of evil. Each song is pieced together so perfectly, the whole album just conveys so much energy and emotion, and it is so addicting. There just isn't a weak point here, only pure genius!Also, props to jimmy on the drums - I am continuously amazed by his incredible talent. What a god.

Great album, having great songs like the beast and the harlot, seize the day, bat country, betrayed, MIA and blinded in chains. Those songs are amazing, catchy and just great.I can't belive that nightmare is infront there's some good songs on the album but not as good as city of evil.I understand the self title album its very good but I just don't see myself listening to it everyday.My favorite of A7F albums are1.city of evil2.self titled3.waking the fallen4.hail to the king5.diamonds in the rough6.sounding the seventh trumpet
