I remember that when I first heard the album, It didn't really click with me right away, but the more I listened to it, ans the more I drowned in the sea that is "The stage", the more I learnes to appreciate it. Brooks did a phenomenal work on this album and without him I'd probably like the album less, Matt's vocals are amazing and syn solos are amazing.I remember when I first listened to "Exist" I started to cry, thinking to myself that I am so proud of them, they feel to me as their music has matured now, and I just can't help myself but feel a great sense of pride and content when I listen to this album.I can say wholeheartedly that this is their best album period.

I feel like lots of people just weren't ready for the direction that A7X went with this album. M. Shadows said in an interview (or maybe a YouTube comment reply) that he felt that this was his favorite album of theirs, and that fans needed to put time into it to truly experience it. This album is a strong 2nd place for me -- behind Nightmare. It leans way closer to the prog side of metal than any of their previous work, and I think that really threw people off. Those that hate on it, in my opinion, haven't given it enough of a chance.

Their best (and heaviest) album yet. By far their most creative work, and they've really opened up and shown how great of musicians they really are. A7X stepped outside of the box for this one, and really went in a different more progressive direction, but still maintained their signature Sevenfold sound. It took me a few listens to really understand the album, and each listen it grew on me more and more, until I appreciated what a masterpiece this album is. Well done Sevenfold, Well done.

Not better than the self-titled album or City of Evil, but this is really good. Brooks was awesome on the drums! It is a relief, I almost thought they were done. Paradigm, Higher, and The Stage are my favorites on the album. Sounds like they are evolving, but they are still A7X. As Matt ages, I think the screaming will eventually go away, which is okay with me because I enjoy the singing. Love that it came out right before Halloween!

Seriously great album compared to Hail to the King, I'd say this album easily sits on the 4th/5th slot maybe even higher. I personally liked City of Evil more, but this is honestly a great effort, the progressive metal sound is very prevalent on this album, and its well executed. Even black metal influence is seen on Fermi Paradox, very diverse, very interesting.

My first couple of listens, I didn't like this album. I seriously thought it was by far their worst work ever. well, it's not, and now I think the prog metal sound could be the path that suits them best. - unknown-soldier

Best album of theirs to date in my opinion. Musically they went far beyond what they have done ever before and lyrically it has a meaning that more people need to realize. Everyone isn't cut out for an album like this though, you certainly need to be into kind of proggy and, to some, "weird" music. But once you see it's glory there's no turning back.

I remember get chills when I first listened to this record. I always get chills listening to an A7X record for the first time though. They're an amazing band. They've created masterpiece after masterpiece and The Stage is no exception. It's so creative and different. It's right up there with City of Evil, Self Titled, and Nightmare

The progressive style is something that I've never heard out of Avenged Sevenfold. I have to say, it suits them quite well. "Angels", "Higher", and "Fermi Paradox" were easily my favorites, with "Roman Sky" and "The Stage" coming in close as well.
