Obito was waiting for itachi to die in order to declare the great ninja war.If he had not been ill, he would've smacked everyone. And if by any chance, itachi got rinnegan then it's all over. OP rinnegan jutsus and itachi's combat intelligence and skills would've been the deadliest combo in naruto.Had he not been ill and still alive, he would've acquired more powers. Not to mention his susanoo had god weapons and was invincible. He saved the shinobi world twice. And the reason that itachi and jiraiya were killed so soon in the anime was that, they were too powerful and would've won the great ninja war easily.Don't forget, he is the only undisputed shinobi in the entire series. He one shot most of the akatsuki.

Masashi Kishimoto himself staed that Itachi was stronger than Obito who was said to be Madara and Black Zetsu stated he was already invincible because of his Totsuka sword that could one shot and Yamata Mirror which could protect him from any attack, making him ridiculously invincible. Madara is OP as well but his Rinnegan needed Hashirama's cells and also his brother's eyes to awaken his EMS, which has nothing to do with natural talent. Sasuke even needed Itachi's eyes to become stronger. Obito doesn't even mess with Itachi because he knows that Itachi knew how to mess Obito up. The third Hokage even praised him because of his knowledge and skills that were Hokage level.

People need to seriously OPEN THEIR EYES. Itachi is not the strongest and never will, people who say Itachi can beat Madara are nothing but Itachi fans. Hell, Itachi isn't even the second strongest Uchiha because Izuna can easily kill him without any trouble. They should change the list to "Top Ten Best Uchiha" then maybe Itachi could be Number 1. But dude, he is NOT the strongest Uchiha. Madara can easily kill him no contest. Even young Madara can easily kill a healthy Itachi.

He was feared among all the akatsuki including Obito and Madara by his intelligence and skill and that was with his illness slowly killing him and over use of his dojustu (eyes). So if his health was well and maybe EM sharingan the guy would of been able to defeat Shisui, Obito, Madara and Sasuke but definitely not with ease, you can't under estimate the skill of those four.

The fool's that are babbling about Sasuke beating Itachi,please understand the fact that Itachi was ill also Sasuke wasn't alone it was Sasuke and orochimaru combined,then again itachi could have killed Sasuke if he wanted to.About defeating Madara the thing is that Madara was on a reanimation jutsu,therefore he could use infinite amount of chakra without damaging his body,if it was a one on one then itachi would have banged Madara lights out.
