The best grunge band by far. Layne staley's and Jerry Cantrell's vocals, lyrics and overall songs defined my love for grunge. AIC should have had the fame of Nirvana which is very sad but like me most grunge fans I come across agree with this the commercial world is sadly what I think pushes AIC aside to Nirvana who I also have a lot of love and respect for.In other words AIC is my most listened to artist, hear them once every two days, says it all really. - Mgsimo

Alice In Chains first?!? They used to be a glam metal band for crying out loud! Posers to the "grunge" movement! "Grunge" was either punk, metal, or alternative anyways. They were called Alice N Chains, and all that hairspray and mascara was just embarrassing to watch, and sounded awful. Don't know why hipsters and millennials like them so much. Layne's vocals always sounded the same. I'll take pretty much any grunge band you name over these guys Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, STP, Bush, etc, etc. They aren't necessarily a bad band, but the hipsters could've picked a better band to rise to fame like Mudhoney.

Nirvana will always be voted number one by this generation and it's not like that's bad nirvana kicked ass. However, alice in chains was insane I mean come on. Have you heard the song man in the box alice in chains is so beautifully dark they just embody grunge. Layne Staley's voice was perfect for what you would want in grunge but also so beautiful not to mention his harmonies with guitarist Jerry Cantrell. The power of Layne's voice just blows your mind and his sincerity and ability to turn his feeling's into sick imagery is unmatched.

Layne's voice was unique and like no other grunge singer. It sends a chill down your spine. Layne will never be forgotten. Jerry's riffs and songwriting add it up. I didn't know what kind of rock music I liked until I heard of Alice in Chains. They influenced me into the grunge era, and got me to like other grunge bands like Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Plots and more.

Nirvana is really good. So are Soundgarden, STP, Bush, Temple of the Dog, and most other bands on the list (Pearl Jam maybe not so much except for a few songs). However, Alice in Chains is better. Many people associate Alice in Chains only with their breakthrough album Dirt. Dirt is an awesome album, but Jar of Flies (Technically an EP), Alice in Chains, and even The Devil Put Dinosaurs here are good albums. I highly recommend anybody to give them more of a chance.

Take it from someone who appreciates all the IMPORTANT grunge bands. Nirvana is without a doubt 1st, Alice In Chains definitely clock in at 2nd, and I don't care what anyone says, the Smashing Pumpkins are 3rd. Alice's 3 albums with original vocalist Layne Stanley match up with Nirvanas 3 albums and the Pumpkins first 3. AIC is the darkest band to come out of the depths of Seattle and we're the first grunge band to reach gold or platinum with an album.
