Unlike everyone else, I think gen 1 of pokemon's biggest flaw is the fact that your bag has a limited amount of space yet it can contains a bicycle and 99 times the same item, meaning that if you have 20 different items in your bag you have to either store them in the pc box or throw away that items. Gen 2 solve that problem by only limitting the items that are not important or are not TMs. There are also other really stupid flaws like having to switch pokemon boxes at the pokemon center to be able to transfer new pokemon in the pokemon center. - Eclipsmon

This game is proof that gamers today think that nostalgia and innovation are the only important things in a game. And for a game that is constantly referred to as the best Pokemon game ever made, it's Nithing special. However, this game isn't entirely bad. It kickstarted one of the most famous franchises in history (along with Pokemon Blue), its soundtrack is catchy and is still being remixed today, and it can be fun to find glitches like the level 100 mew glitch. But is it that good? Not really. It's about as fun as mashing the A button. THERE IS NO STRATEGY WHATSOEVER. Nothing to make your Pokemon unique, and no way to change its stats (other than the expensive vitamins). IT'S THE SAME THING EVERY TIME! I'd rather stick my head up a Garbodor's ass than hear one more word about Charizard or Mewtwo.

Nothing really wrong with these games on their own, but if it weren't for the newer games Pokemon would probably be the shallow, boring thing people think it is. Newer gens had better graphics, more Pokemon species so you get more of a choice, aspects like breeding, EV training, held items and new moves to give the game an insanely deep meta...and all you see is people complaining about how the new designs are bad. Each generation has well liked Pokemon and less popular ones, we get it, you don't have to love them all but they're all there no matter what and it can't be changed.

I am a huge Pokémon fan, but that doesn't include how I feel about this. You all are just making assumptions, not factual statements. Pokémon red was popular at it's time, though gamers still look back on nostalgia it brought, you're deluding your minds thinking it's overrated. Actually nowadays it's underrated. You need more facts to back up a claim, the only people who still praise tbis game are genwhunners. And there's barely any of them. If you want an actual overrated game (And ps most of the people on here are using overrated just to show they hate a game, when overrated just means it got more praise than it deserved, making most of these claims void) but as I was saying, if you want overrated go to generation 4. Gen 1 is not, or near overrated

As much as I've loved Pokemon since I got to play Pokemon Blue when I was 5, this doesn't deserve all the praise it has recieved. There are glitches galore, even ones for simply walking one way then back and standing on a certain time of no importance. The event Pokemon mew has no value as you can just simply do glitches just to get mew over and over again without using hacks. Most TMs are worthless (*cough* *cough* Softboiled), the metagame is broken (QUICK! GO MOOTOO! ), and people make so many awful "creepypastas" about Lavender Town. While it isn't a bad game overall, it isn't the best.

And also you can say this game involves no strategy, but almost every game needs little to a lot of strategy. You can say super smash bros needs no strategy, but it does. Especially on the competitive side. Does Pokémon have a competitive side? Yes. Does Pokemon need some strategy? Yes. Try and disagree, I'll leave you with this: this game isn't strategic huh? So you can just spam harden? No? My bad you need a strategical moveset and logic

Charizard isn't the most powerful Pokemon there is. Mewtwo is not the best legendary there is. This is just my opinion. But each step a new Pokemon would take it improved over the its predecessor. The problem is that some people can't get over this. Don't get me wrong, I love Pokemon and I really like Pokemon Red, it marked my childhood. But its sucessors were definitely better than Pokemon Red.
