This is by far the darkest animated Disney film, which is why I love it so much. The characters are so complex, with beautiful animation. The only problem in my opinion, is that when you are given a movie like this, but you throw in childish elements like the gargoyles in the mix, it doesnt really work as these elements dont fit in a movie like this. And yes I know it is for children, but still, the gargoyles didnt work at all in a movie like this, with complex themes, and dark elements. But beyond that, this easily takes second place in my list.

I have no idea how this was rated G. The movie dealt with racism, government corruption, sexism, sexual harassment, torture, and genocide. Disney went darker than they ever had with this movie with moments like the burning of the house WITH THE FAMILY STILL IN IT, Frollo smelling Esmerelda's hair, Frollo killing Quasimodo's mother, and almost dropping him in the well and Esmerelda being burned at the stake.But there was more to it than just darkness, it featured the best musical score (In my opinion) with songs like Hellfire, God Help The Outcasts and Out there. AND, QUASIMODO DOESN'T GET THE GIRL! It's REALISTIC! Sure he was a great guy, but Esmerelda just didn't love him and that's ok! The only thing I can think that is wrong with this movie is that those STUPID GARGOYLES were in it and ruined the tone.

While I can clearly see why it isn't number one as it is quite a bit of an acquired taste, I can't help but see this movie as my favorite. The story is interesting, the characters are some the most complex made by Disney, the songs are pretty much all on the scale of the big songs from other Disney movies (Circle of Life, Part of your World, A Whole New World, etc. ), the animation is some of the most refined the studio has ever created, and the voice acting is some of the most passion-filled I've ever heard (Just listen to the Quasimodo section of Out There and then try to tell me I'm wrong).

This is my favorite, beauty and the beast after. though true, its an odd film, however contains some form of history (judgement etc) its passionate, and strong, gladly not as dark as very first written by victor Hugo. the voice acting is perfect, and it gives a good message, kind of the same as the beauty and the beast. I love the complicated and complex design of the characters, Esmeralda being a little cocky but also gentle and kind, and Quasimodo who snaps quickly if his emotions go crazy. I love this film, it under rated.

This is a powerful, majestic movie, with a chilling atmosphere, and great music. It also teaches people that it's more important what's on the inside than the outside. Amazing movie. Also, it's the only Disney movie - to my knowledge - with a not COMPLETELY happy ending. Quasimodo gets accepted into society, which is a heart-touching moment, but he doesn't get the girl. I find that ending way more interesting than an ending you can predict two minutes into the movie.

Very glad to see where Hunchback is on this list! Really made up for the mess that was Pocahontas the year before, and was the last great "Hoorah" of the Disney Renascence.(Also, Frozen was a good movie, don't get me wrong, but it's placement is completely unjustified)

A beautiful, dark masterpiece. I loved everything. The songs, the characters, the story and the gargoyles are not as bad as everyone says. It brought us the most evil animated villain ever and one of the evilest of any villain - Judge Frollo. Thus movie is SO underrated. R.I.P Tony Jay
