The American Lion is my favourite prehistoric mammal. It was closely related to the cave lion, but the American Lion was slightly larger. It's main rivals were short- faced bears (arctodus simus), Dire wolves, and Smilodons. Although Smilodon was slightly heavier, It wasn't as fast as an American lion. And American Lions are thought to be smarter that smilodons, because there are much more smilodons that got stuck in the La brea Tar pits, a death trap in Los Angeles. Smarter, faster, larger, and in some way more ferocious looking than smilodon ( saber- toothed tiger), The American Lion is the greatest prehistoric predator of the ice age!
