Yoda is the best. Some things he did are: he defeated Darth Bane, he was more powerful than emperor Sidious, he is one of the 8 Jedi Grandmasters ever, he can freeze people with the force, he defeated Dooku, one of the best swordsmen with almost no effort, he unlocked the path to immortality with the light side of the force, he doesn't even need a lightsaber to stop force lightning, he could tell when order 66 was happening, in episode 2 he saved a lot of important people in the jedi order by saving them with the gunships. That is only the last around 100 years of his life. Think what he he might have done in his first 800 years when in his prime.

Yoda by all time is the most skilled Jedi. He has everything, good lightsaber combat skills, strong in the force, experience, name it all and he has it. He rarely kills, as he is the true follower of the light side. He has even seen Jedi turning from peacekeepers to warriors. He is still a peacekeeper. Now the point where he supposedly lost to Dooku. He didn't, he just saved Anakin and Obi-wan. And the point against Sidious, he could just get his lightsaber back anytime, but knew that for the time being, when he knew it was just him and Obi-Wan, he should complete his duty as a peacekeeper and not a warrior, and being a visionary saw a new light of hope ahead, and had to fulfill his duty as a Jedi Master, to train a new Padawan who could defeat the Empire.

I love Yoda and all don't get me wrong but I don't think he should be in first place. In my opinion Vader is the best but Yoda was pretty bad ass. He was a master in all the forms of lightsaber combat. He knew every everything about the Jedi and the light side of the force. He was proof that you didn't need the darkside to be abnormally powerful. He was never ever defeated in lightsaber combat. He won a duel against Dooku who was one of the greatest lightsaber duelists in the history of the Jedi and the Sith. He equaled Darth Sideous in force abilities and tied in their battle purely because Sideous had spread the Darkside everywhere.

Ok, look. What do you think the title Grand Master of the Jedi means? I mean, no offense. Sure, Kenobi's a master swordsman, but Yoda knows all, and I stress ALL forms and variants of lightsaber combat. I mean, if you want a good fight, tell george Lucas to make Yoda fight vader. Yoda must be on the 1. Place. Obi Wan and Anakin, only both together can beat Dooku. Yoda beat Dooku easily. After 15 sekonds, Dooku was running away because yoda was much stronger than him. Ankin beat Dooku, beacause Dooku didn't fought serious. He didn't want to kill Anakin, because Palpatine needed Anakin fir his Plans. Yoda beats everybody in STAR WARS! Dooku beats Anakin, Obi beats Anakin, Dooku beats Obi Yoda beats Dooku Mace beats Dooku Mace beats Darth Sidious Yoda beats Sidious. So, 1. Yoda 2. Mace 3. Dooku 4. As seen in the official Star Wars canon, Yoda is without a doubt the most powerful force user. His 900 years of experience helped him have a much better understanding of the force and life. It would not be however, until the finale of Star Wars the Clone Wars when we see Yoda truly understand the fore. This to me makes him the most powerful canonical and legends character ever, even though he did not defeat Darth Sidious in Revenge of the Sith.

We never actually saw him win a lightsaber duel. In force potential, he is second to Anakin. In actual force abilites, he is unmatched. In lightsaber dueling, he's intimidating because he jumps around, but he couldn't quite beat his former student, Dooku (although this may just be because Dooku fled) and he couldn't defeat a weakened Palpatine (I mean, Mace Windu beat him and is the reason he is weakend).
