Another overrated character in the prequel trilogy. In the first two films of the trilogy, Palpatine is boring for the most part. But people don't care for those movies as much as ROTS. People praise ROTS for having a dark tone, but Ian Macdiarmid's performance as Palpatine creates a serious tone problem. He's too campy and corny as the Emperor. In the original trilogy, Palpatine was treated as an intimidating presence.
