Riding isn't just sitting on a horse. It's getting a 1200 pound animal that has the power and potential to kill you with literally one step to submit to you. It's performing an intricate and complicated dance that you only learned minutes ago with an unpredictable partner who doesn't speak your language. It's galloping a nervous, six foot tall horse through enormous stretches of water and mud and jumping solid wood obstacles while trying to finish your five mile course under the allotted time. It's getting up at ridiculous hours of the morning to go spend three hours caring for the animal that tried to kill you a scant few hours earlier. It's putting every penny towards the best care for your horse and drilling showmanship and risking your life every day just for a colored piece of fabric that could be bought on eBay for ten cents. So no, running a few miles is NOT in any way shape or form harder than riding. - SassyEquine
