There are comments here that are ridiculous. There's absolutely nothing wrong with British food. It's far and away better than American chow. Maybe Americans prefer to eat junk food.I've eaten the most divine Indian cuisine in London, cooked to perfection, and there are excellent chefs in the UK, too numerous to mention here.

This is not entirely true.. British food is not bad. If you not lived here, you won't know. One trip to London would not justify that. There are so much influence from different countries, that you are spoiled for choice. Who said bangers and mash are bad? The local produce of beef, lamb etc is out of this world. One trip to Harrods or Fortnum and Mason will change your mind.. Seriously people.. if you have a chance visit Devon, Cornwall.. beautiful produce from apples to cheeses ... to seafood... LOVE !

This has got to be a joke. Some of the best meat and fish in the world. If you're rating the food by the average restaurant, you're going to be very very disappointed. Fortunately, there has been a big awakening to home-cooked food in the last few years! We do fantastic pies, stews, puddings (desserts), pastries and cheeses. Remember, we didn't even have a potato until the 16th century, let alone a tomato. We basically lived on turnips, oats, grains, and whatever fruit and veg would grow in this pretty harsh climate. I think to put Britain as the worst in the world is totally unfair and extremely ignorant.

I think America should be number 1 that is the country of Fast food. People who vote this never tried a single bite of British food. Like apple pie? Like shepards pie? Like yorkshire puddings? The UK is home to most of the best food in the entire word. Whoever votes this is extremely low educated and most likely an American who is jealous because this country is a lot better then America. Recently visited the UK. The worst food in the world is probably an exaggeration but the food is very bland and flavourless. The British are wary of trying unfamilliar cuisine. Beef is tender and easy to eat but lacks flavour and is really expensive. Sausages only come in one variety - pork, the expensive ones are nice but the cheaper ones looked so bad I wasn't game to go near them. Fish and chips are everywhere but Call of Duty is bland and tasteless. Chicken and pork are ok and more reasonably priced. Fresh fruit and veg is OK as long as it hasn't had to be transported from halfway round the world. There is good food to be had in the UK but for the average punter it is very expensive. I think the reason the UK has a bad reputation is because particularly if you live in London, once you've paid the rent putting good food on the table is a struggle to afford.

The dishes themselves are incredibly bland, with very little diversity in the spices that are applied. The ingredients are horrendous in quality. And worst of all, pubs and restaurants seem to hire the most mediocre cooks. All of this probably comes from the fact that people in Britain rarely complain about anything, including food, which naturally results in a gastronomically underdeveloped culture.
