People think that this word means that the subject has a lot of fans and doesnt deserve the amount of fans that the subject has. But it just means that a lot of people like the subject.

I find this word stupid. You might not know what the thing you are calling 'overrated' means to people who like the thing. People even use this as a reason to dislike something. You do know that people have different points of view, right? I especially hate when people use it to describe FOOD, since everyone has different taste buds. I just find this word ridiculous. Why can't you just use the word 'bad' or say "I don't like this thing as much as most people do"?
