Sid had no way of knowing that the toys were alive until the end of the movie so he can't actually be a true villain. And I think he was more misunderstood than evil. He didn't seem to have the best parents or home life, didn't seem to have friends, and had an overactive imagination. I think he had a better side to him even though it didn't really show and he does change after the first movie.
