Oregon has a history of racism. Ingrained in the history, mind you. During my stint in Oregon, I didn't experience it. In fact, shopping and out-and-about businesses are fairly normal with very few exceptions that could just be one-offs. Plenty of authentic Mexican shops, plenty of Asian shops, etc. Compared to northern Colorado this is WAY more diverse.It's more like...Oregon has a "bubble" and the people who haven't been anywhere else think that the state and the way they do things is perfect. So when you're an outsider, whether you're of color or not, there's this default rejection of whatever you have to say that's infuriating. Things where other states have long since abandoned them, Oregon happily embraces with a bear hug and refuses to let go despite your strong arguments. Then you're treated like a pariah for even suggesting changes.The whole Full Service gas fiasco is a perfect example where even Washington isn't so stupid anymore. - mrstackz

Oregon State is one of The Most Racist States I have ever seen in my life. They are Not liberal unless you are referring to gay people and even then they are Not liberal enough to gays. This is a state of very nasty, disgusting Racist history when it was actually illegal for any minority of any class or ethnic background to enter into the state, and they abused the Indians already living within the state. The same Racism exist now in 2016 within the state of Oregon. This is Jim Crow masked with hidden Kkk sheets and the misuse of the word liberal. The state is not liberal at all. This is a very racist state of present day racism, bigotry and confederate flags supporting slavery. For the record I am a caucasian/ white male with a masters degree. I am originally from Switzerland and I believe all people should be treated equal and fair. This is not the state for fair and equal treatment. In fact it is the exact opposite.

I have lived in W. Oregon over 3 years and worked closely with hundreds of people. I have seen and heard subtle and outright racism from most native Oregonians here, even from the self-proclaimed fake, trendy, "hippies". Confusingly, though, they also seem to disapprove of white European countries! I heard an OSU graduate of communications one day say, "British people talk funny and have bad teeth, I am never going there! " Maybe they are simply clueless about everything that does not directly involve themselves and their city? Their arrogance and ignorance is the most disturbing. They don't think they are racist, therefore, they must not be. Like most WHITE people (calm down, I am mostly white), they seem to think they are qualified to decide what is offensive to races they neither belong to nor understand.

I just got back from Oregon on a seven day trip. I was surprised to see so many white people. I felt the racism the very first day but I ignored it because there were other people of color there and coming from California I was oblivious to racist looks or attitudes. But then I really felt it as I traveled from the north to the south. It wasn't an isolated feeling I felt it from one city to the next. We were six female Hispanic adults, all related, and we all have money. That didn't matter. I just felt we were not welcome and people were not friendly, at all. Other people I know have not had that same experience, therefore, I was open to vacationing. I will never go back due to the unfriendliness of about 99% of the people. There are Mexicans there in Oregon but they are hard to find. the last day we saw three protests in the streets that read "Impeach Obama'" "No Amnesty for Illegals'" and "Diversity is codeword for white genocide." I have been living here in Portland for the last 16 years. I lived in several other states prior to living here. While Most caucasian Oregonians and portlanders would like to believe that there is no racism here. There is significant racism here. It is just not in your face type of racism. It is the modern form. Racism with a liberal twist. In reality, Oregon has a dark history as one of the most racist states. It just doesn't have the ugly history with slavery as they did in the south. Some of this history extends to modern day.

Being raised in Oregon as a minority, I can tell you it is the least racist place I have ever encountered. I live away from Portland, and still am surrounded by many liberals and minorities. There are of course some racist people, but no one pays attention to them, and they're laughed at for their idiotic views. In my high school no one was shamed for being gay either.

Portland is super liberal and the moment you step outside of the cities it is rednecks upon rednecks. Even in the city Portland is 90% white. While Portlanders like to think of themselves as extremely liberal they still continue to gentrify this city.
