Hawaii is low on the scale because outside of tourist areas people can be really horrible. There is a lot of racism here toward white people mostly. There is racism between many of the brown skinned races as well. It's so sad. Aloha is dwindling just like any place would when there is so much poverty. Although this is the case you could also meet some very amazing people. Tourists in Maui have confided in me that Big island people are much nicer. So I guess it depends where you go. It's not personal though, people become jaded by their situations. People in Tennessee are nicer for sure.

I don't understand why the Aloha State is so low on this list. Although they seem irritated to tourists at first, once you get to know them, they're very genuine and warm. Friendliest people I've ever met. As long as you don't act like you own the place when you come here and pollute the beaches, us residents will gladly welcome you. Don't let the guarded exterior fool you!

I am shocked that this place is so low! I went on this website only because I vacationed in Hawaii and was completely blown away by how friendly everyone here was! Everybody I met was extremely welcoming, helpful, and also family oriented. I have never been so content meeting new individuals

Sure, there's good old southern hospitality, but I'm surprised the "Aloha State" isn't on many lists. Hawaii is home to warm, friendly people, and if you look beyond the giant tourist industry, the locals are among the most welcoming people in the world.

Eh, Hawaii's more of a wildcard, well at least where I live in, Oahu. Some locals will treat the tourists with disdain, while others will look as presentable as they can for the tourists. The rude toward Honolulu locals and Westerners part is Leeward Oahu, they could also attack at any moment. Big Island is friendlier than Oahu, and Maui too likely.
