I grew up in a small rural town in Northern Michigan. It was very non-welcoming to people of different ethnic backgrounds...very racist. I also traveled to many other parts of the state and found the people in the upper peninsula were the friendliest. The southern half was not inviting. I will never go back there.

I was born and raised in Michigan by parents born and raised in Michigan! Now I live in Texas now! Enough said!
On my 44th Birthday I moved to Texas after years of winters and having to push my own car out of the snow! My neighbors would drive by going oh well too bad for you! I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and they knew! They felt their lives were more important than mine! Yes southern Michigan is where I was born and raised and yes people are racist and unfriendly! My son is 1/2 Hispanic (on his fathers side) and at his all caucasian school in Oakland County the children would say nasty racist comments to him only an adult would know! As soon as I moved my son to Dallas and its diverse population he began to thrive! Instead of not wanting to go to school because of the bullying (the school wasn't helpful) he loved school. He got a perfect 1600 on the SAT!
He now attends an Ivy League University!

I left my fiance after moving there with him so he could be near his family. It was because of the people. Even his friends were unfriendly. Worst & rudest I've ever encountered.

In general, people are rude, in a hurry and I think depressed. Michigan has plenty of friendly people but overall people are just in their little bubbles.
