Honestly, without its hacks to support it (Z-Factor, Ancient Chozo, Eris, Phazon, Super Zero Mission, Redesign, etc), vanilla Super Metroid (graphics, speedrunning potential and sound design aside) is a rather weak standalone game by today's standards to put it lightly; granted, it's at least more balanced than Symphony Of The Night, but it's also far, far, FAR too short and (for the most part, not counting the second Ridley fight and possibly Mother Brain) is just a plain laughable joke even on minimal-item-percentage runs difficulty-wise; also, it REALLY isn't the darkest Metroid game like this website says it is (cough, Prime Trilogy and Fusion, cough). Trust me, that right there is PURELY nostalgia talking.Prime 1, on the other hand, if not for its stiff and awkward control scheme that also takes nearly all of the challenge out of most combat scenarios due to the lock-on feature, would have been absolutely PERFECT in just about every way (state-of-the-art graphics even by PS3 ... more - xandermartin98
