Every genre is arguably an acquired taste. I think though that probably you you find it easier to listen to these genres even if you seldom get much enjoyment out of them than I would listening to Death Metal. (I could be wrong though). - Powell

Believe me, I used to hate Death Metal but this genre grew on me. I first got into Death(One of the founding Death Metal bands) and then Dark Tranquility(A Melodeth band which is Death Metal but they have some clean vocals too). I then got into a few Deathcore bands like Suicide Silence and Whitchapel. I then got into Opeth.Now Opeth are currently my favourite Death Metal band but they are more of a Prog Rock band from the songs I have listened to. They still have good Death Metal songs. - DarkBoi-X

Only first three albums of Death were actual death metal. Their later stuffs possessed very little death metal characteristics. Opeth is a Prog Death metal band not prog rock or death metal alone. Listen to their early works like Morningrise, Orchid, My Arms, Your Hearse, Still Life etc. to get a better understanding. Dark Tranquillity sound nothing like Death metal, yep they are melo-death, which isn't necessarily a form of death metal just because of the word "death" associated with it - it varies from band to band. Handful of the early mdm albums were more closer to death metal. - Black_Abbath
