I have a confession to make. I don't really like the items in Mario Kart. Don't get me wrong, I love the Mario Kart Series. The tracks are awesome and the items are a good idea. However, I don't really like the items in Mario kart because getting hit by one is so pacebreaking, because of how much it slows you down. However, there is one game where the items are actually fun for me and this is Double Dash. When you get hit by an item, you slow down, but you don't get to a complete halt. That means that even though this game doesn't let you do things like keeping a shell behind you to protect you from red shells, this game is not pacebreaking. Combine that with items that didn't come back in other Mario Kart games like the bowser shell, the fact you can have two items at the same time, and the special items that gives you a reason to choose a character for another reason than stats or something like that, and you have what is by far the best item system in any Mario Kart games. - Eclipsmon
