There are those that believe that Ruth was not physically fit enough to play today's game, even 30-40 years ago. Personally I think there is no denying the ridiculous offensive numbers, and even his pitching stats hold up nicely. For me then, Ruth is the best, but there are others that are close. I've had the argument with many who believe he is not, but they usually pick another player pre 1960's, which kind of defeats their whole baseball has changed argument. Its fun to argue the numbers, but lets face it, Ruth, and many others, never faced a pitcher as dominant as say, Nolan Ryan. Nor did they face many relievers. - CyberRat
