Excellent weapon. Very well made but will not tolerate dirt, dust or the like. I carried the weapon in combat in Africa so I know first hand this to be true. With automatic the first round may be on target but all subsequent rounds were progressively shooting at the moon. Only time I used auto was when on point and that didn't included firefights. The 7.62 is an excellent round but one can only carry half as many as the 5.56, which will in itself will do incredible damage. Someone mentioned it was the #1 choice in 90 countries. The key word is "was". The FAL is fires the 7.62 x 51mm, which packs more punch than even the Kalashnikov's round, and essentially the FAL is a medium range light machine gun that you can carry in you hands. The FAL is reasonably accurate, has the best stopping power of any assault rifle, and is decently reliable, but still has some jamming propblems from time to time, unlike the indestructable AK system. I think that the FAL is a great rifle, but in an urban enviroment, its not the best weapon to have when in close range combat, because of its monstrous kick. in medium range combat, using it as a support rifle can really be effective More affordable than a SCAR. Battle proven. Heavy round turns cover in to concealment. I don't find the recoil that bad. Trigger is awful though.But it is a full sized cartridge and not an intermediate cartridge like a true assault rifle. This is the king of battle rifles, and I'd say the SCAR 17 is the heir apparent, in 50 years it might be king. The FAL shouldn't even be on this list, not because it's a poor weapon, but rather because its not even an assault rifle. Namely due to the fact that it is chambered for 7.62x51mm which is a full size rifle cartridge as opposed to an intermediate round which assault rifle's are chambered for by very definition.
