I was put on Xanax when my sister was dying of ALS. It took me 4 years to regain my physical and mental health after going off of it. It's not taking the medication that's a problem, it's when you stop taking it or when your body goes into tolerance withdrawal that the real problems start! I never abused it and took it only as directed. When you start having withdrawal symptoms, doctors just tell you that you need more, or replace it with something else. It WILL make you do things you wish you'd never have. I previously abused these and struggled coming off of them. I made mistake after mistake and used xanax to cope with everything wrong. 14 years on Xanax. The lowest I've be able to get down to is.50mg at night, or there's no sleep. I've been on as much as 14 mgs a day. I'm also addicted to oxycodone 180mgs a day for 7 years with a 10 month break. I've never been as sick and weak as I was coming off of oxycodone but, there's been no hope of kicking Xanax. I can honestly say that Xanax is the most addictive brain changing drug out there. NEVER EVER TAKE ANY BENZO FOR ANXIETY. You have no clue what real anxiety is until, you try to quit Xanax and have rebound anxiety that's worse than any anxiety you've ever experienced. You will sweat, twitch, have tremors, headaches, restless leg, INSOMNIA, anger and a laundry list of other disgusting withdrawal symptoms that will NEVER EVER STOP. Alprazolam is a short-term benzodiazepine ( brandname Xanax ) and is less addictive than long-term benzodiazepine like for instance Diazepam ( Valium ). So if you make a list like this,just say benzodiazepines in general or make some actually research which molecule of benzos are the most addictive. Like I said, there are long-term acting benzodiazepines and there are short-term acting benzodiazepines and alprazolam is in the category of short-term benzos.

I would down vote benzos. I took them for anxiety for quite a while. I never developed an addiction. I quit after switching to paxil which worked better for anxiety. I had withdrawal symptoms for a few weeks, that's it.
