The band for people who don't play music themselves. They had a few good albums but nothing to write home about. Drummer Lars Ulrich is probably one of the most insufferable douchebags I can think of in music. He is supposed to be a professional musician, yet he doesn't practice his instrument, and can't even play some of their most basic songs without ruining the song. In the studio he used beat-detective programs to correct the drum track to make it sound a lot better and more tight than he can actually play. Just go to YouTube and search for Lars Ulrich drum fails and prepare to be blown away at how bad he is.

I like them a lot and I even like Enter Sandman a lot but they are simply NOT the best thrash metal band, the best metal band and certainly not the greatest band of all time. Master Of Puppets is really not a great album, yet I like St Anger a lot so I guess my musical taste is slightly strange. People need to listen to Ride The Lightning more. I mean, that album was great. There simply were better thrash bands though, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer among the finest of those. The idea of them being the best band is a load of nonsense. I think that spot should go to someone with CREATIVITY and I'm sorry, but this band just ain't very creative. That is in fact the reason they are overrated; tens of billions more people listen to them more than REALLY excellent bands such as Porcupine Tree, who are almost unheard of.

Kirk is truly a great guitarist, I can't take that away from him. But James is a growling frontman who can't sing. Lars can't play kick drum or drums, for that matter relatively well. They have had some great bass players but they have never really shown their talent. People will always say that Megadeth and Metallica are in the same group, but Megadeth has stayed true to thrash metal standards, with the accept ion of RISK, which was a poppy metal album. but it was good. Metallica's St. Anger was not even vomit worthy. Metallica will always, in my opinion be a pop metal band, ever since the black album they have lost touch with real thrash metal. Plus Nick Menza will always be better than Lars. Marty Friedman will always be better than Kirk. And David Ellefson will continue to be one of the best metal bassist out there. And Dave Mustaine will forever be better than James.

Overrated does not mean bad. I have nothing against Metallica, but given that most Metallica fans will totally say. "If you don't like metal that's pathetic. You probably listen to 1D anyways" and "95% of you people don't know what music is, calling Metallica overrated" I think maybe, just maybe, Metallica can take a MINISCULE bit of criticism don't you think? Maybe? Would that be okay with you fanboys? Well, I'll just say they aren't TOO underrated, for the sake of not having a keyboard war. Sorry, I know that was a little harsh. I think the Jonas Brothers don't deserve to be number 1 because this is a list about the most Overrated bands and most of people know the Jonas brothers are more of a boyband no one ever took them that seriously and they aren't that bad. Metallica is considered one of the greatest bands of all time but they are clearly overrated and only fanboys love them and piss their pens when someone doesn't agree that they aren't that great. First of their instrument skills suck and only their first 2 albums were good most of their work is trash specially lately. Never was a fan of them they annoy me to be honest

Oh yea, TOTALLY. You would not believe how many non-fans I've seen wearing their merch. Some of their stuff may be good, but who's actually listening to them?
