He's the most three-dimensional and complex Pixar villain ever. Having once been a favourite toy of a child who one day lost him on a field trip and bought a replacement for Lotso, he began to feel betrayed, so he found the Sunnyside daycare and rigged the whole system, so that newer toys would have to suffer in the caterpillar room with younger kids, and older toys (like him) would forever be played with in the butterfly room by the older kids.
