This movie changed Star Wars. First off, Luke. In return of the Jedi, we saw Luke change from a whiny kid to a Jedi, a Jedi who saw the good in Darth Vader. In the last Jedi we see a guy who runs away and hides on an island and complains about his life. He was going to kill his nephew cause he saw bad in him, but wasn't return of the Jedi all about seeing the good? And how Luke changed to see the good in people? So In the last Jedi Luke went back to being that "whiny kid". Also Leia can fly in space, and the whole plot of the movie was dumb and nothing even happened. Oh except that they freed the animals and left the children slaves but that's ok cause according to Rose "it was worth it" even though their friends in space are dying. So...I just pretend this movie doesn't exist and jump from 7 to 9. The only good part in this movie was when Rey and Kylo teamed up...yep that's about it. - hollyeb13

This film doesn't deserve the level of hate it gets, but it does struggle with message and direction. For instance, I thought the actor of Rose did fine and have no problem with the character. Yet how they wrote the character in was poor writing and what they have her say and do conflicts with other things they show and do (e.g. a film that from beginning to end is about sacrifice and not giving in is ruined by her in one line saying that that's not what they're supposed to do. It doesn't work).So is this the worst star wars film ever? No. I actually really appreciated their attempt to be unique and change direction for the franchise. If executed properly, it would be just what we needed. But the execution was quite imperfect.

This is a great movie. What I really like about this movie is how they take a lot of risks to surprise the viewer. While people complain that they ruined Luke's character, I thought that what they made to him was a great idea, because it gave me a new way to look at the character that makes him interest. I think it's better than the Gary Stu the fans wanted him to become. Also, I'm sorry but Ray isn't a Mary Sue because she does make errors sometimes, and Rose is a great character. Now, let's hope that Rise of the Skywalker will be at least a good movie to finish that very good trilogy. And let's hope they will not reveal that Ray is a Skywalker just because the fans complained that revealing she is the child of no one important was a disapointment, because that would be stupid and I hope that it's not the reason why the movie is call the rise of skywalker. Seriously, which skywalker is rising? I thought Luke was dead. - Eclipsmon

Hello! I am one of the weirdos that loves this movie. I'm here to explain why.a lot of people absolutely hate what was done to Luke Skywalker's character, but I thought it fit quite well. I mean, Luke was never perfect, nor was he really the happy-go-lucky eternal hope type. So nearly killing his nephew and creating the new Darth Vader would certainly be within his character, and all this happens in an instant of weakness. He almost turned dark in RoTJ, remember? And of course that would cause him to go into exile and be reclusive.This movie isn't without its flaws, I'm not trying to say it is. The Canto Bight sequence is too prequel-y and long, and Leia's Force powers are quite out of place and not handled well, but no, THIS MOVIE DID NOT RUIN STAR WARS.

This movie would have been a whole lot better if they hadn't completely RUINED Luke's character! He was like, my idol until they made him seem like a little turd living on his own little island all alone beating himself up and being depressed. The only part I liked him in was at the end, but up until then I felt like my idol turned into a selfish little brat that completely gave up hope in everything that he fought for, after everything he went through! But yeah it was a decent movie despite the fact that they ruined my favorite character.

I have yet to seen Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker but this is one of the worst movies I've ever seen (that I've seen). Takes everything that made every other movie bearable or great and we get this. Plot-holes, uninteresting, character-wasting and short and bad battles. There really isn't anything redeemable about this movie. - darthvadern
