This one is insanely chilling. This is a narrator rediscovering events in his childhood and putting together a lot of horrible things that aren't so far fetched. This definefly deserves a top spot on the list, because while it's slow paced and keeps you guessing, it brings back childhood fears of something hiding in the dark as to what we fear will happen to our children today with child predators a real threat, and the spin of it makes it sound plausible and creepypasta's, while scary, never catch that deep realistic bone chilling experience that you get from stories like this that NEED to be more popular than outrageous tales of gore and insanity that are obviously untrue, and that realism is what truly scares us.

This introduces a chill to the reader without the traditional gore and jump scares, while also keeping the story compelling and completely disturbing. Honestly, most creepypastas don't actually scare me, they just disturb me a bit. But Penpal... Well, let's just say that Penpal gave me a dose of paranoia and maybe a bit of insomnia. If you like reading stories that make you check under your bed and jump at every noise that you don't immediately know the location of, I highly suggest this creepypasta.

Penpal is something I would be proud to call a creepypasta. It's something that can happen to any of us and it just seems so... Realistic. It's long but if any thing's ever been worth the read, its this. I've read Jeff the killer, slenderman, squid wards suicide, BEN drowned... And nothing has given me the creeps like this story did. The only thing I've ever enjoyed as much as that was the books of sand if I remember correctly.

Worth the read ten times over. If you prefer books to screentime, order the book by Dathan Auerbach (1000Vultures) off Amazon instead.Thrilling the reader with its uniquely original storyline, Penpal repeatedly compels you to and more as you become infatuated with the narrator's story. To this day, I'm frightened of waking up in a place other than my own bed.Penpal is, without a doubt, the absolute best Creepypasta I have ever had the pleasure to read.

Really by far the best creepy pats I've read. It may be a long read, but it's one that is definitely worth it. Voice and incredible detail is consistent throughout, not to mention the incredibly unnerving and realistic story, and finally topped off with a spectacular twist ending. Only 1993 and Psychosis can compete with this masterpiece. Don't know why this isn't in the top ten. 5/7

Penpal was so highly regarded that I eventually bought it, and I'm SO glad I did! One summer night I stayed up until 3 just to finish the book! Every twist that the story introduces is just horrifying in how it so quickly dawns on you.(SPOILERS-SPOILERS-SPOILERS-SPOILERS)The freakiest plot twists to me had to be: when the mother is out because the Polaroids were sent without a stamp; the boy is texted "I love you" by the "girlfriend", who he learns was dead at that point; the boy discovers that the penpal had been living under (or at least luring animals to) the foundation of his old house. That last one had to be the freakiest for me. - higgsboson2142

In terms of creepypasta's it is a masterpiece introducing the reader to a very frightening villain that doesn't stick to the traditional role of a ruthless psychopath killer but instead a disturbed silent figure slowly pulling the strings as if treating it as chess a very long sadistic patient game of chess

This I believe is one of the greatest pastas I have ever read, for two hours I was intoxicated by how the author manages to pull you into the story, it will leave you as an emotional train wreck! I suggest this one as at least top 10 because of how the author manages to pull in jumpscares, gore, mystery, as well as some childhood fears.

This one is so freakishly long but it was so, so worth it. Each part has a new chilling factor which ends up adding to a bigger picture. Even if you're not committed to reading the whole thing, just the first few parts will scare you as it did me. It's fantastic. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Thrilling. Absolutely thrilling. It'll send chills down your spine without having jump scares. Every memory just adds another layer to the story. I would be paranoid halfway through, but still keep reading. It seems realistic, but you also couldn't imagine it happening...
