It is the impressive mane the males have that gave them this title, like a crown. In Africa they reign supreme. However, in the feline family they take the back seat to the larger, faster, stronger, and more agile Siberian Tiger. Anyone that claims otherwise is biased, or misinformed.

Even though tigers are heavier and stronger than lions, I think a lion would win in a fight against a tiger mainly because a lion has more experience in fighting larger animals than a tiger. A male lion also spends his first few years training to be a strong predator.
