This is the best fantasy novels and I will go as far as saying the best book ever written. Filled with amazing characters, detail and a wonderful plot. It has only been out for 20 years and already has sold more than 500 million copies(The 3rd most sold book of all time.) Lord of the Rings has been out for 50 years longer and only has 150 million. Many may argue that lotr has only 3 books, when Harry Potter has 7, but the first two harry potter books alone have more sold copies than the WHOLE LOTR TRIOLOGY. Much, Much better than Lotr and Percy Jackson and Chronicles of Narina. The whole franchise is breathtaking and exilarating. I believe it will be the first fantasy novel to reach 1 Billion.

Harry Potter was such an amazing series I just wanted to and more. It had so many amazing characters and also characters that are just fun to hate. JK Rowling is an amazing author and I wish she had written more books. I can not put into words how amazing the series was. The series gave you characters to look up to and valuable lessons.

I always liked Harry Potter better than LOTR. There were lots of times when I felt really bored reading LOTR, because nothing was happening and they were just walking around. There were also many characters who were underdeveloped and it took a very long time for Tolkien to show what a character was supposed to be like (by that I mean they had very similar personalities and there was nothing very different/unique about many of the characters, besides Sam and Aragorn and a few others. Most of the characters were only developed after a very long time, while in Harry Potter, you really understood all the characters.) I like LOTR too, but I believe that Harry Potter is better.

This series is undeniably one of the most popular fantasy/adventure books in the world. However, this series isn't really for me. Although the storyline revolves around a boy named Harry Potter who attends Hogwarts for wizardry and magic, it kind of confuses me. But that's just my opinion. The plots and scenes are great and I would rate this an 8/10.

Definitely the best! Everything that you'd expect from a fantasy book is in here. Made up animals (hippogriffs, for example.) Also, there is a lot of magic in this and I appreciate that J.K. Rowling has spent some time thinking about magic spells and creatues. Overall, you should definitely read this at least once in your life as it as an amazing book. And, if you don't like reading, there's always the movie version, starring even Emma Watson! definitely a must read. - kittygirl2

Yes. Harry Potter's the greatest fantasy story ever told. It has dragons, hippogriffs, unicorns, three-headed dogs, werewolves, vampires, and much more. My seven favorite Harry Potter characters are Hermione Granger, Rubeus Hagrid, Severus Snape, Luna Lovegood, Minerva McGonagall, Nymphadora Tonks, and Ginny Weasley.Hermione's great because she's compassionate, loyal, independent, super duper smart, and brave. She may seem like a bossy know-it-all at first, but Hermione proves to be much more than that. She turns into a beautiful, amazing witch. Hermione's also a female and a main character, which makes me love her even more. She is my idol. Tons of times, Hermione saved Harry and Ron from danger. Without her, Buckbeak the hippogriff would've been murdered, Harry and Ron would have suffocated in the Devil's Snare, and Sirius Black would have been thought still a murderer. LotR and HP are awesome in their own right, but I picked Harry Potter because, for me, it was a lifesaver. It encouraged me to be brave enough to be unique, (Luna) taught me that love can beat the crap out of power, (Dumbledore, Harry, and Voldemort) and that no matter how much damage is caused, true family and friends will come back to you or accept you again. (Literally all of the Weasleys.)

Ha no crap Harry Potter wins, best series of all time an the most profitable. Jk Rowling sure knows how to write a good book without making it seem ridiculous. Lord of the rings is a very close second, I think they should tie actually. The writing is complex for some people in LOTR, but I love it - dragonfly99
