The story of the orange islands build on to the Johto region season 3 - season 5. The orange islands have some good points such as interesting, new setting compared with the inland areas of every other setting until Sun and Moon which had a beach style simillar to the Orange Islands setting. They was also trials that Ash had to complete in both. As wella bring something to some profressor plot, the orange Islands were a bit comptrived with the G. S. Ball that was ament to be celibi but the sun and moon series actually had a pokemon egg which hatched into an vulpix. Orange island certainly has merit to it but just not enough to beat the orginal series.
