His troubles off the field cannot take away his greatness on it, 1983 saw a first taste of greatness as a National League Rookie of the year, he went on to play in 8 straight All-Star games 1984 to 1991, 1987 saw him hit 39 home runs and 36 stolen bases, along with 32 doubles and drove in 104 runs. 1988 National League Home Run king 39 home runs in all and 2 time Silver Slugger Award (1988,1990). 1990 saw him hit 37 home runs and drove in 108 runs. From 1984 to 1990 Darryl's New York Mets formed one of the premier teams in the National League, finishing first or second every year. Darryl is a member of the New York Mets Hall of Fame.
