I hate how people complain about how this album is mainstream; this can't possibly be father from the truth. While Eminem's album includes several samples of pop singers, Eminem uses these samples in a similar manner that he used Dido's sample Thank You as a basis to his unforgettable song Stan. Haters also seems to forget that this album was a comeback for Eminem, a way of showing his fans that he's still the best rapper, which is definitely what this album delivered. Eminems recovery was easily his worst album ever. for me it's a tie between the Marshall Mathers LP and the Slim shady LP. There was less creativity in his recovery album than his Slim Shady EP album from 1997 and his Infinite album from '96. I can't understand why people like him better now that his rhymes arnt as clever. The real Eminem rapped about whats real and he could relate to so many people. The stuf he does now is just straight up crap. back in the Slim Shady LP he had 4 songs in the top 100 and the "My name is" single was number 1. In the Marshall Mathers LP he had 6 songs in the top 100 and the single "The real slim shady" was number one for 6 consecutive weeks. Today he only gets 2 songs in the top 100 list and the songs are not even in the top 10. It seems as if Eminem moved from rap and hip hop to pop. He was way better when he was in his prime between 1999 and 2001. Rap has always been about making the cleverest rhymes. there is nothing clever about his recovery album. I think I've made my point.

I disagree on that hip hop is ONLY about clever rhymes. Also, if he has transitioned to a pop artist then why did you make the point that he's selling less records ? That completely contradicts your point. Hip hop is about good lyricism, flow, delivery, and production. However, having "clever" lyrics, isn't all there is to even hip hop lyricism, let alone hip hop as a whole. Good lyricism, can come in many types, clever, deep, light, etc. The lyrics can make you think, make you want to get up and dance, or showcase the rappers talent and lyrical ability. Types of lyrics fit certain moods. Kendrick Lamar is one of the best lyricists of the day, and you wouldn't call his lyrics clever. They are deep, personal, and thoughtful. I just think this album didn't really have a personality. It seems to be (somewhat) a tired cliche, and you don't really get much creativity or that much of a concept. Can some of his motivational type songs be good? Yes. Do we need an entire album? No. - Themusicman

Recovery was a great album, so stop trying to be cool by saying it wasn't because it was "too pop". Sure, there were iffy beats, but it is filled with some of his most emotional songs ever, and very strong lyrics. I agree, I don't love 'Not Afraid' but stop saying Recovery was worse than Encore. I want you to play 'My 1st Single' 'Rain Man' 'Big Weenie' 'Just Lose It' and 'Ass Like That' straight in a row and tell me that Encore was a better album than Recovery."Doctor Dre, is it gay to play put-put golf with a friend, and watch his butt-butt while he tee's off? I love this album, I can understand people not liking it becuase they like Eminem for being slim shady but the guy was what 36/37 when he recorded this album and just recovered from a very hard time in his life. I just have a lot of respect for Eminem for making this album there is just so much meaning to it. the explosiveness of cold wind blows and the flow on the second track on fire is just amazing, from then on their is just so many deep songs like not afraid, going through changes etc... like I say I understand why people prefer his earlier work but for me this is my favourtire Eminem album, hard decision really as they are all so good (except encore) very little between them all.

Ok I'm sick of you unselfish heartless fans who claim to be stans and say how you hate Recovery and Relapse. Both albums aren't bad and are very emotionally revealing (even though they are basically the opposite). But all you want to do is complain how Eminem isn't as good as he was. Don't you care about HIM? Those 2 albums are about what HE is going through (Changes, struggles, etc. ) Just listen to the lyrics in My Darling, Beautiful, Difficult, Going Through Changes, You're Never Over. Yes his first 3 albums (not counting Infinite) were his best but he's going through things at this point and as I said the music is still dope. by the way, mmlp2 is awesome I think Slim is getting back to where he was with it. It's amazing lyrically (evil twin, rap god) has emotion (Legacy, Stronger Than I Was, Headlights). I like ALL of Eminem's albums. Best album of Shady. MMLP is epic.. But come on just because its his Mona Lisa doesn't mean I have to stroke his dick for it. 'Kim' is garbage and torture to the ears "Remember me" is also crap. Recovery is a classical comeback album.. A song for every mood. Space Bound murders every song Shady ever made cause it paints you the best picture of why he's afraid to commit, and why he has so much reasonable woman-hate. This album makes you understand the multi-layers of Shady and is 10 times diamond in my heart.

My favorite album is The Marshall Mathers LP but I also feel like Recovery is underrated. People look at it as this mainstream album and they fail to see the emotion and creativity, cleverness of the lyrics. I do love the Slim Shady persona and the whole 1999-2004 Eminem era but Recovery was a way for Eminem to re-introduce himself to people after everything he went through. He became wiser and you can see that through his songs.
