Everyone's saying on how Rose Tyler could show mercy to a Dalek but Rose and River clearly have different qualities. Personally, I think that Tyler is only up there because of her "chemistry" with the Doctor.River Song's just so badass and otherworldly that it doesn't just take us (the ordinary people) into an adventure because watching and fangirling over the show is enough. River Song, however, brings that sci-fi character feeling I've had for so long.I might be a bit biased here, as she was the only character I've shipped with good ol' The Doctor.

How is River not at 1st place? she's mysterious, funny, loyal, caring and sassy all at the same time. she knows the doctor like nobody else. she was made to kill the doctor, but was always a very disobedient character. she had an awesome plot twist and a sense of knowing what was to come and that made her extremely likeable. From meeting in the library with the Tenth doctor and saving his life, to standing at the Derilium singing towers with 12, she has been the best companion yet.
