The difference between Prim's death and Rue's is that Rue was going to die no matter what. She was a tiny, twelve year old girl in the Hunger Games against mutts, much stronger tributes, and the Gamemakers constantly out to get her.But Prim? Katniss volunteered just to keep her safe. Everything she did was in hopes of keeping sweet, tiny Prim safe from harm. That's exactly why Coin killed her- to devastate Katniss to the point where she'd be totally on her side. Prim didn't have to die. She was supposed to be safe back in 13. And it's not so much her death itself that's so heartbreaking- it's Katniss's reaction.

Prim's death was #1 for me because it was so quick. You didn't even know Prim died when it happened, because Katniss was trying not to be engulfed by fire. You find out in the next chapter, and your just like what the hell. But, her death made me want to cry because it was so tragic the way that she died. I'm not saying that Rue's wasn't tragic, but I think Prim's was sadder.I also really bad for Katniss after that happened. I mean, she went through the 74th and the 75th Hunger Games, and fought in the rebellion. Why did the author have to do that to her? Katniss describes how she feels nothing for a year, and that just makes me feel so despondent. Believe me, Rue's death was sad, but Prim's was sadder because Katniss was depressed for a year.

Prim dying was sad, but this was the worst written part in the series in my opinion. Rue's death was packed full of emotion with Katniss making her a grave. Rue is sweet, don't get me wrong, but she is a twelve-year-old Katniss knew for a couple weeks. Now Prim is Katniss's sister that she's known all of Prim's life. Rue did save Katniss, but Prim's goat provided the family with a lot of extra money, milk, and cheese. Still, while Rue got an entire ceremony, Prim got "I watched my sister become a human torch." or something with the same words in different places or such. Katniss was trying to survive, but that was true in the Hunger Games as well, and she could have mourned more for Prim later. Prim's death evoked no emotion from me until Buttercup found Katniss at the end of the book, at which point I cried and cried. This was such a weak point in one of the best books in the world. - pandagirl

Ummm I don't agree k well Cato KILLED a bunch of peeps and then he died trying to kill Peeta so well he deserved it (though I felt kinda sick since he was torn to shreds by the mutts) but Prim and Rue they didn't even kill anyone and Prim died while trying to help the Capitol children. Katniss risked her life to take her place in the Hunger Games, tried to stay together and satisfy Snow's demands to keep her safe, and jumped right over the electric fence so that she and her mother would not be taken in for questioning. And to reward all those sacrifices, Prim just had to die because of Coin's desire to remain the leader of Panem.It also wasn't fair for Prim either. She died trying to help the wounded Capitol children. The Capitol children, for goodness! She didn't owe them anything, but she helped out of compassion. And as a result she gets killed by the rebel bombers. I really hate Coin for this, sometimes I think she's worse than Snow.But Collins should really have developed this part better... after Rue died she had a song sung for her and her body lain with flowers. Prim couldn't have exactly the same treatment, I know, but there could at least have been more elaboration to the effect of her death.

Prims death is truly the saddest and at first I thought it was effie but at the next chapter when katniss said I lost my only sister I looked back and finally figured out how prim died I honestly had to bite myself to prevent me from bawling my head off. Prim's death was the saddest. I am a type of a person who don't cry when people die in fictional works. But Prim's death made me cry. It was stuck in my mind for 1 whole week. I am not telling that Rue's death was not sad. But Prim's death was so bad. Like it changed Katniss a lot. The part where Katniss and Buttercup meet it was where I died inside. I love you prim. :'(
