Sure there are dangerous sports, but surfing's "playing" field is actively trying to kill you. There is no sport on this list where you get pummeled by the field its self and it can drown you. In all the other sports there are refs and emergency help near by. Surfing, you have your self and maybe the other surfers around you. And the there's sharks, but that subject is covered elsewhere.
