Language Arts is a composite course combining literature, grammar, semantics, reading, writing, speaking, listening, introspection, spelling, genre studies, and media incorporation including technology. It emphasizes communication as a relevant and necessary life process, which it is; without language arts, (this includes not only standard English but also any foreign languages you may learn) other areas and disciplines would not exist, save perhaps agriculture since it is really the earliest science pursuant to survival.And perhaps, I am biased, since I'm an ELA teacher, but I wholeheartedly ascribe to the premise and believe in the principle of language as the first line of defense: a proactive measure in expressing not only our unique perspectives, but more importantly, in connecting us as a global world.Education eradicates ignorance and communication is the cornerstone of it! - Listlover77

Let me be honest. Being a writer / author is a job that you can get, same with an ELA teacher, but not everyone NEEDS to know advanced language arts stuff to get by when they grow up. If others can understand you still, I don't see why you need perfect grammar.

Why should I care about what kind of phrase I'm writing, oh wait, I DON'T. So why am I forced to take a class about it every YEAR. Also the almost never ending amount of essays, stupid assignments about syntax and diction, WHO CARES? Unless you plan to be an author or something in that department, the only thing helpful is when you learn about how to speak or write without sounding like a massive idiot.

When or why would I ever need or want to know what an example of a simile or an onomatopoeia or whatever is in real life? It's just not useful or necessary information. This class doesn't help anyone- it's all just stupid English literature and projects that take way too long, paired with one of the dullest classroom experiences you'll ever have. Have I convinced you it's pointless yet?

Ok everyone. I am prety good at LA but I don't think we need to get all extreme unless u wanna be an author of something I believe we should know how to read, have decent grammar and know a good amount of words. but there is no way I think that we should know what a metaphor exactly is or a simile or stuff. we know that stuff by learning it off parents, sometimes friends or comedians I don't know but try teaching us relevant stuff please? - xXbfdi_bhabieXx
