Latin is very hard, but it is a bit easier if you know any of the romance languages connected to it. (e.g spanish, french, portugese et cetera). The syntax is quite similar as of spanish and the aforementioned. Apparently there are only 100 latin speakers who can speak fluently. Also, there's a lot of memorization and there are genders, conjugations for every word, and there are no articles. I've invested it in quite a while and I can say that learning in latin in context is the best approach without translating or thinking in english; that's what an average roman would do. For some it would take years or more to master this language compared to other languages like spanish and french, hence the complexity of this language. The difference is Latin is a logical language while English is an analytical language, that's why Latin is very hard. - Leafeon

To be honest, Latin is a pretty logical language. English is actually ten times more illogical than Latin ever will be, it's just the fact a lot of us on TheTopTens grew up learning it so we see English as "logical". I'm not even sure why it's a dead language, but whatever.Sorry if that didn't make any sense at all! - vanilla

It is dead because intelligent people kept correcting those who used it slightly incorrectly. It became a language for smart-allics more than anything else. My Latin teacher told me this.

Because the roman empire fell because of barbarian tribes. And since the roman emperors stopped communicating, new languages started to form. Latin isn't really a dead language, it just so happens to evolve into multiple languages, and it's still being used in science and math fields today. - Leafeon
