London is just full of tourist attractions (Buckingham Palace, Big Ben etc.) but if you wanted to find somewhere with absolutely no tourists (okay, maybe like 10) where you can get away from the crowds. If you rely on public transport, without a doubt, you can get on a bus. If not, a train, or a taxi! They have places like Oxford Street, where you can buy food and amazing clothes, makeup, perfume, etc. the houses if you want to rent one, cheapest is like 500 then most expensive is probably 3000 if you're buying an average size apartment. The education is outstanding, and for university, (if you vote someone in particular) can be free. Period.

London is easily the best city on the planet. It beats New York hands down, every single time. The History of Britain is so diverse and stretches much further back than that of the US, and much of the fascinating culture of this is located in London. London's Impressive architecture includes Buckingham Palace, St James's Palace, the Victoria Memorial, Wellington Arch, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, the Shard, London Bridge. (The list goes on) All you have to do is watch clips of the Olympics last year and acknowledge the fact that the 2012 games have been labelled the BEST ever. London is the only city to host the games three times. As well as this the world has been fascinated by the Queens Diamond Jubilee and the Royal Wedding. London is where the world lives and watches. Meanwhile in New York...?

I'm not going to put down other cities in my comment, only give the desirable aspects of London. Every street has a history worth telling. I went to a restaurant quite far off the centre of London, and this small restaurant had a whole past linked with royals and medieval practices and it was fascinating. And there's a similar story for most places, too. In London, you feel as if the whole world revolves around you: something is always going on that attracts huge amounts of attention. Walking through London is like walking through a film, with every building a spectacle in its own right - Buckingham Palace is stunning, the government building is perhaps too beautiful for the people within it! And now, the more modern buildings are rising. None of them are plain, rectangular skyscrapers, they are creative and clever, like every other part of London. London is just the best! It might not be 20 years ago but it definitely is now. It has history just like Paris. It has the best institution and culture, financial industry like NYC. It has good transportation infrastructure (Heathrow, Metro) which is not that worse when comparing with Tokyo or Hong Kong. It also attracts a lot of tech company and become the new Silicon Valley in Europe. Basically, no matter you are a scholar, artist, banker or IT worker, London is the ideal place for you. In addition, it has so much attraction for both Wealthy people and poor people. If you have lived in London, you won't blame yourself for living there. The life is so perfect and everyday you walk there makes you feel living in a painting. The street is clean and the architecture is innovative. You will never get bored or feel too overwhelming while living there. IT DOES HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED FOR YOUR LIFE.

London is city that continues to grow on a person after decades. It might not initially blow you away like manhattan or have the obvious beauty of Paris, but hidden in corners are some of the most elegant building around, each area is its own town within the city. Cultures are mixed, everything just seems to work together. Old and new, technology and history, skyscrapers and medieval palaces stand side by side and just work. No other city has this. London is safer, cleaner, greener, more accesible and just hands down more welcoming than other cities. Fashion, sports, arts, music and education are all world leading in London, Links to rest of the world are amazing, cuisine is second to none.

At 52 years of age I have just returned from a week long visit to NYC. I had dreamed of visiting the city all my life and this was my first visit there. Sorry NYC, you aren't as great as the hype would make you believe. NYC is nowhere near as good as London.- The city stank- The subway was unreliable and dirty- New Yorkers were, with a few notable exceptions, very rude. Service staff expect a tip as a right and are therefore ungrateful for them. At least London service staff show gratitude when tipped.- NYC is behind London in technology, only now rolling out NFC payments and the public WiFi is unreliable.- Central Park is nice although it is often compared with London's much smaller Hyde Park however London is greener which many more parks. Central Park doesn't even come close to Richmond Park with deer roaming free.- Shopping is annoying. The price you see is not the price you pay, There is tax to add along with credit card transaction fees. There is no ... more

I have visited every city that makes this list and easily London comes to the top. New York is an absolutely amazing city, but London is just so unbelievably interesting. It's the fashion capital, a stable financial city, extremely pretty, has so much history. The transport there beats every other city in the world 100 times over because it's efficient, reliable, quick, easy and looks the part. It's has the biggest variety of shops and is hands down the most culturally diverse city I have been to. My only Critisism is that it is ridiculously expensive, but this is only now, who knows how expensive it'll be in a couple of decades.

Londoner by choice, great city, hasn't succumbed to the skyscraper revolution yet. Tall glass buildings are currently the norm but they have been juxtaposed tastefully within the legacy architectural fabric. Culture, cuisine, art, drama, musicals, concerts, stand up, parks, gardens, walks, fitness, fads, fashion, diversity, - you name it all - London has something unique to offer with its own quirky twist.. As someone who has seen all the "great" cities of the Western world the only city where I want to return to again and again is London. What I love about this city is that it does not feel like it's huge, the traffic functions rather well and the atmosphere of it is just so welcoming. I'm not even talking about the history of it here, because there are plenty of people who aren't interested in history alone. If one's interested in the economic aspects and all the "where's the best s***" it'll probably be New York, but if one wants to live, study, work and simply enjoy all facets of life it'll be London.
