In Sparta, if a human did not seem fit to be a warrior or deformed they were thrown off a mountain. In Sparta you had to be perfect. These soldiers were almost invincible. The went through rigorous training women and men at a young age to prepare them to fight anything. Men, women, and children all had to be able to fight for their nation. At the battle of Thermopylae the Spartans were greatly outnumbered. The Persians fought with almost 100,000 men but there were only a few hundred Spartans. Though the Spartans lost, the Persians suffered great losses as well.
