I used to live in tower hamlets when I was studying in London and I've never felt so threatened in my day to day life (Im female and very small and frail). I got antagonizing glares while outside my halls from the women in Niqabs. I had men reach up my skirt. In the evenings I would have multiple people from the mosque harass me on the street trying to convince me to join Islam. Apart from the very extremist muslim population the area also has a rampant drug problem. Most of the addicts dont approach you but Ive seen a few steal from the local Tesco. Some will come up to you and ask for money or to use your phone but will usually back off if you say no.It may have improved since I left (I doubt it though) but overall the whole experience left me with a negative view of London so after that I would never live in London again

Fierce bengali gangs top of the chain are the stepney thugs posse. Based in stepney green you can tell from the name the infamous ben jhonson road is the place for every criminal to prosper. HOWEVER massive community spirit bengalis like to look after their own. One of the biggest area in the borough. HUGE RIVALY with the brick lane massive. Known to the goverment for heavy drug and arms dealing. Mayor of towerhamlets knocked down many tower blocks which where the hub for the crimes. Know starting to look more upclass.

I lived in tower hamlets all my life I used to live in Bromley by bow however their was gang wars and stabbings going on literally every day. I saw kids selling drugs and riding on mopeds creating a noise almost 24/7. Even when I used to go shops I used to see boys chasing people with very big knifes. Now I live in Canning Town which is a very quite place.

I lived for 2 years in Bow. Never felt particularly unsafe, but there are dodgy areas like the estates between Alfred St and Addington Rd. It's not unusual to see hooded thug-looking groups of youths loitering around, but fortunately enough I never had a problem with them. The worst thing I witnessed was a few hooded kids nicking a bike just opposite my flat.

Not a good area it's full of bullys kids ganging up on each other. However the older generation seem to have a lot more respect than the younger ones. The older generation would look out for you unless you did something wrong then they will deliver you hell. The kids bring hell regardless.

I think London has a massive issue with gang culture in general but tower hamlets is a safe place to live. Sure, there's petty crimes like every other London borough but it's a safe place to live. There's an actual community, who genuinely have values.
