I was born and raised in Puerto Rico U.S.A. I lived in NYC for 35 years. Never had a problem with racism. But, following my sons, I've been living in Pa for six years now. In the first apartment that I lived there was a crazy guy who in the beginning made our lives a horror and later the wanted to forcefully befriend us leaving sexually explicit notes on my door. In the world and apt. The owner was a Puerto Rican woman that stole cMy electricity for a year and a half. In my 3rd apt the drunks and junkies didn't let us sleep partying all night. In the 4th apt. The neighborhood bullies were calling my boy F... Ng Mexican and F.. Ng Niger. In my 5th apt. all the neighbors began to complain about us and the manager tried to make us leave but he got fired. Where I live in our 6th apartment, the superintendent pray on women that live alone and goes into the apartments when they are not home. I want to leave this town so bad. I've lived in Pennsylvania for about six years now. I'm hispanic and honestly cannot recall ever being treated negatively. I worked as a bail bondsman for a few years and always felt welcomed into the court houses, and treated kindly by the staff and officers. I have a few friends that are police officers and have never felt disrespected by anyone on the force. I'm well educated and very respectful but assertive. I demand respect and I've always received it, as well as give it.

I've lived in Pennsylvania all my life and travel a lot in Pennsylvania and never had any racial slurs or bad looks at me I live in philidelphia and been all the way up to the north west of pa went on train ride up there and the conductor let me put on his hat so I would say that Pennsylvania is the most non racists state in the U.S. A infact PA was founded on non racisim with the Quakers believing that all men are equal including the black man also when slave escaped from the south PA was the first place they went because slavery wasint allowed

You are the luckiest person I have ever met. Pennsylvania is one of the MOST racist states in the country. There is racism both inside and outside urban areas. I have lived in Pennsylvania all my life and I am appalled at how a country who boasts its participation in outlawing slavery can be so racist. On a daily basis, I drive by Confederate flags hanging on trucks and houses. I have also seen many of my good friends being bombarded by racial slurs when simply going to the supermarket. I remember a time when we went to go buy wood for our wood-burning stoves from a guy who lived 3 houses down. As we were leaving, we noticed a sign above the door that said, "This house is protected by the KKK" That is not something you find in a state that isn't racist. - BoxFalcon

I'm from Alabama and of mixed race. I can say that there are more interracial couples in Philly than in Birmingham. A lot of others around me also agree that there's a relatively high percentage of interracial couples and friendships. However, the small town from Bama that I'm originally from has just as many if not more interracial relationships than Philly, but this probably is mainly because of the big drug problem we had in that town.

I lived in Central Pa for one year many years ago. We might have toughed it out as it was much cheaper than NY but as White people, we were not happy to listen to the way the "N" word was tossed around and accepted by other White people. I would not raise my (future) child(ren) in such a place. It's too bad people have to cut other people down to raise their self esteem. It's a beautiful area and last year I drove through again but no, you have to stop with the "N" business. - MRMY
