This argument is flawed for so many reasons. First off you're only concerned about not going to the hell of your specific religion. What if you're a Christian but Islam ends up being the one true religion, and you go to Muslim hell for being a Christian and not a Muslim. All other religions can make this argument for why you should believe in their particular religion. How would you determine which religion is correct? In addition, if it turned out that all religions are wrong and there is no God, then you wouldn't lose nothing, you would lose doing whatever you want for the one and only life you know you have. Also belief is not a choice. You either become convinced of something or you don't, but you don't choose whether or not you're convinced. I never choose to stopped being convinced that there is a God, I couldn't help but to stop being convinced. To any Christian reading this, if you truly believe that belief is a choose then I dare you to stop believing in God for the next ... more - scienceLover10

I see this all the time, and the problem with this is that EVERYTHING has a risk. If you played it safe with everything, well, if I leave my house, a axe man might kill me, or I might die in a car accident, but the chances of this are slim, so I still go outside.Another problem is that you can't 'put on' religion like a coat. It's not a belief unless you actually Belive it. And, if you're an atheist like me, it's hard to change your mind.

Right, for this to be a good argument there'd have to be at least a 0.1% chance for god to be real. It's a calculated risk.

This is a reply to the other reply on this comment:Do you realize that you are making the same mistake as the Christians you dislike so much by assuming that your opinion is complete true? Also, using percentages doesn't make your argument any more valid. It just makes you look like a sad little Richard Dawkins wannabe.

Remember to a Christian the fear of getting killed every time you leave the house is nothing compared to the fear of hell because they truly believe that those who are not "born-again" go to hell and the Christian does this to make you think about the risk and if it's really worth gambling with your soul. Of course if this the only reason to be a Christian then we can apply the same philosophy to all the other religions that send you to hell if you don't believe and at that point your most likely to pick the wrong religion anyway - maverick88

I was like 7 years old, at a sort of special daycare meant for children with mental disorders (Not very bad disorders, don't worry, I'm not a psycho.), and I was in the car back to the daycare because we went on a trip that day. During the car ride, the subject touched on religion. I said I didn't believe in god, and the other girl that was with me in the car simply said; ''Then you'll go to hell.'' Needless to say my 7 year old self was stressed out for the rest of the day.

I would rather be an atheist than a catholic(I am a Christian). Why? Because breaking God's commandments is the same as not believing. Note: some Catholics are actually good people and God is calling them out to quit.

This is known as Pascal's wager. It argues for a god that's stupid and doesn't know much of anything. You would figure a god would know if someone truly believed, or was just taking out a fire insurance policy. - Daeralic

—3DG20
The only person not respecting other religions here is you. I will happily respect Christians and think no differently of them as long as they respect that back, and its the same with everything else. - 3DG20

But Atheists (like me) think there is no hell, so how are we suppose to know we'll go to hell? - KingSlayer93316
