I'm an American who has lived in Stockwell half the year for the last 6 years. I know it well, even better than many native residents. Know shopkeepers, cafe owners. Sure, there is crime, but I feel it is terribly exaggerated. According to a friend from Stockwell on the police force, the crime is mainly gang on gang.I find Stockwell a charming community with an identity, a small town feeling of sorts. I get on well with everyone, from the Pakistanis at the two grocery stores by the tube, the Cypriots at the Kebab shop, and of course the Portuguese cafe and restaurants owners and staff. I'm on a first name basis with so many of them and have a love affair with stockwell.I've walked the streets of Stockwell at all hours, including coming home from clubbing in the wee hours of the morning. I lived in Stockwell for 9years moved out after the Stockwell bombing. To live in peckham with family. It was alright just the Chavy guys in hoods in the estate buildings hanging around spitting everywhere on the floor. Like one time they spat out the window on my mums head disrespectful. And I've seen arson and I remember all this under I was 10 years old. A older guy who used to play in the park with us we heard he got stabbed. I was horrified especially hearing that a young age. Oh and a ball broke our window my dad went mad. Someone pepper spray the estate block door and me and my dads eyes burnt and a neighbour eyes too. Quite mad being so young whilst this was happened good education at Allen Edwards primary school though. - Anon2

I've lived in Stockwell for 25 years and now I'm moving to crystal palace! Hallelujah! I just got screamed at in Natwest by a horrible rude man for absolutely no reason...there are crackheads, beggars, muggers, mentally ill, you name it, Stockwell has it! It's a shame because there are some lovely Victorian houses and nice quiet side roads and there are decent people in Stockwell hidden amongst the criminals! Do not come to Stockwell.
